Album Info: | This spot was recommended by Joe Usselman as an alternative to the Amtrak Station in Hammond and I was very satisfied with the results. Good sightlines, picturesque neighborhood with industrial backgrounds, and a lakeshore park with a great view of downtown Chicago all make for a great railfan spot. Three lines cross 117th Street in front of the park, the NS mainline, a CSX branchline and the EJ&E Lakefront Branch. All the action was on the NS today and the only activity on the other two lines were two CSX units that sat there the whole time I was there about 100 yards from the grade crossing. All pics in this album were taken between 12:30 and 3:30pm CST. |
