Viewing Album: SEPTA Transit Worker's Union strike Day 13: NEC operations.
By:
Alan Page
Dates:
4/6/1977 - 4/6/1977
Album Info:
The SEPTA Transit Worker's Union strike in 1977 lasted 44-days, from March 25 through May 8. This album features operations on the NEC on Day 13 of the strike. At Morrisville on April 6, 1977, former PRR/PC Metroliners, GG1’s, E-60’s, and the X996 French electric handled Amtrak’s North and Southbound traffic. Many of the Metroliners remained in the PRR-year’s paint schemes, with a few in the garish red, white, and blue scheme. Conrail operated local commuter traffic with RDG Harlan and Hollingsworth MU’s, Silverliner III’s, and even GG1-led RDG MU’s! Conrail’s freight traffic on the NEC was handled by ageless GG1’s and E-44’s on the electric side, and various GP’s and U-boats on the diesel side. A few hot pig trains were hustled through with pairs of SD40’s.
